Vessels in
Christ
The Pacific Islanders Organization serves as a “home away from home” for students on the Azusa Pacific University (APU) campus. The mission of PIO is to share and teach the Polynesian culture to the APU community by keeping Christ at the center of the organization. PIO values the meaning of family and strives to include individuals by creating a sense of belonging. The Annual Lu’au Production is used to portray strong core values of the Polynesian culture. This lu’au explores what it means to be a vessel and what it means to be a servant to God.

The Process
The theme of the 2017 lu'au is "Vessels in Christ" and is about a girl who travels to different islands to visit her family in search of her faith after learning about her parents' divorce. I explored the concept of travel, water, and different vessels. I decided to illustrate the woman praying, and her hair portraying water to represent her travels to the different Polynesian islands.

After digitalizing the image, I created posters and social media posts to advertise the event. Additionally, I created tickets, program pamplets and a Snapchat Geofilter for the event.
